Steve Chandler – Our upholsterer
Steve’s Upholstery Journey
A native of Kent, Steve embarked on his upholstery career in 1979, taking up a junior role at the esteemed Clements International Furniture in Ramsgate. His apprenticeship laid the foundation for a lifelong passion, as he immersed himself in the intricacies of the craft. Seeking to broaden his skillset, Steve ventured to Suffolk, where he honed his expertise at Guildhall Furniture and Harris Fine Furniture.
The allure of East Anglia proved irresistible, inspiring Steve and a colleague to establish their own upholstery business in the region during the 1990s. This entrepreneurial spirit culminated in the founding of Ashe Upholstery in 2000, a venture that allowed Steve to fully express his artistic vision and technical prowess.
With a career spanning decades, Steve has built an enviable reputation for excellence. His meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail have attracted a discerning clientele, including high-profile clients such as John Lewis, The Dorchester in London, and international brands like Sieben in Cologne and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. His portfolio also boasts collaborations with renowned British establishments, including Chapmans in the North East and Swallow Hotels.

Steve’s work is a testament to the enduring artistry of traditional upholstery, combined with a contemporary sensibility. His ability to seamlessly blend classic techniques with modern design has earned him recognition as one of the industry’s leading experts.
In recent times, Steve has relocated to Oxford to be closer to family, where he has established Cotswold Upholstery. This new chapter marks an exciting development in his career, allowing him to bring his exceptional skills to a new audience and explore fresh creative opportunities.
